We put out a call to the big companies in Uganda to ensure that people living with disabilities are able to attend their CSR events. Two companies have responded to our voice advocating for social inclusion for PWDs. One is MTN Ug which now has Wheelchair race included in the annual MTN marathon event.
The second one is Coca Cola company which is advertising and welcoming PWDs to apply for jobs. They are now encouraging people with disabilities to apply for the jobs they can do at Coca Cola.
Most recent was a concert by musician Levixon who made it free for PWDs to go enjoy his show although it had challenges of putting in place measures to accommodate their accessibility to the grounds, a few that made it were very happy and the word put was positive inclusion.
Within 5 years we have made big strides to achieve social inclusion for persons with disabilities in Uganda using media platforms and door to door teaching.
This has enabled us to reach a wider audience to preach the gospel of inclusivity and encouraging those living with disabilities since they are a forgotten lot in Uganda.
