Who we are

Fenna Tujjune is an indigenous rights-based non-profit organization with the notion that children with disabilities should have a voice in society and live in an inclusive environment, right from family, and school to the job markets in Uganda.

We concentrate in the poorest parts of the country where giving birth to a child with a disability is still considered a curse and therefore needs to be eliminated because PWDs and CWDs continue to face a widespread stigma and discrimination which leads to rejection, neglect, and denial of access to basic needs.

Mission

Empowering and protecting Children living with disabilities (CWDs) to create a self-reliant future generation of People living with disabilities in Uganda.

Vision

Make Uganda an inclusive and happy place for People living with disabilities (PWDs).

What we do

We promote disability inclusion by ensuring that children

We promote disability inclusion by ensuring that children living with disabilities participate and benefit from social and public activities, gender, community setting and activities or benefits that their peers without disabilities participate in or benefit from.

Helping Image

We make sure that adequate, inclusive policies and practices are in effect in communities, institutions, and organizations to cater for people living with disabilities.

Helping Image

We promote inclusive education by minimizing barriers to attendance and learning, through advising effective planning and implementation of school activities with children living with disabilities.

Helping Image

Fenna Tujjune works with CWDs, their families, and communities to overcome physical and social barriers within their communities through a holistic approach to persons and their environment in the areas of health, education, livelihood, social inclusion, skill development and empowerment.

Our Principles

  1. Inclusion and participation
  2. Non-Discrimination
  3. Child protection
  4. Reasonable accommodation
  5. Comprehensive accessibility
  6. Coordination, strong partnerships, and linkages
  7. Evidence-based implementation
  8. Confidentiality and consent

Our Challenges

  • A Limited number of inclusive schools and organizations in Uganda which leads to a continuous increase of school dropouts, and unemployment hence an astronomical rate of poverty in PWDs communities.
  • Inadequate budget resources to enable effective operations.
  • Lack of transportation means for our beneficiaries from deep rural areas to rehabilitation centres which prompts us to schedule training dates that are not as often as they should be.
  • Due to the lack of convenient transportation services, we are limited from reaching out to some of our would beneficiaries in remote places.
  • We are low on staff members to follow up on cases of our beneficiaries since we do home visits. Each staff is allocated 4-5 beneficiaries; most times overwhelming because it entails moving from one home to another sometimes one village/town to another.
